K Cooling Tower Demolition Project

American DND crews, along with those of the implosion subcontractor (CDI), demolished the 185-3K Cooling Tower (K Cooling Tower) at the DOE Savannah River Site located in Aiken, SC. We safely demolished this second-largest nuclear cooling tower to ever be imploded worldwide on May 25, 2010, at 10 a.m. EST. The 455-foot tall 333-foot diameter hyperbolic structure made of reinforced concrete fell to within its own footprint approximately eight seconds after detonation.  American DND was awarded 100% of the available Safety Bonus Incentive Fee allowed in the Subcontract Agreement.
