Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant

American DND and CDI (general contractor) were hired as a subcontractor by Four Rivers Nuclear Partners, LLC under an open-source competitive bid. The physical work took place over a two-week period from 5/20/2024 – 5/31/2024. American DND provided equipment directly to FRNP after the implosion of the HPFW Tank. The equipment was utilized in downsizing the HPFW Tank after it was safely on the ground. The HPFW Tank was 310’ tall and stood on six legs. The HPFW Tank weighed approximately 580,000lbs empty and was built with 5/8th steel.

American DND handled project and administrative management. This involved work planning documents with FRNP, engineering design, and technical submittals for CDI. Coordination amongst shareholders was at an extreme level due to bringing prohibited articles (explosives) into a category II nuclear facility. ADND coordinated all activities between federal and state regulators, the FAA, due to the facility’s close proximity to the regional airport, fire Marshalls, public communications, and all site departments. Field management included project walk downs to review muster points, verifying air gaps to locate below grade, and adjacent utilities within the designated fall zone. All surrounding ancillary facilities were also cold and dark. On the shoot date ADND conducted PODs with all affected personnel and ran accountability procedures.
